ABOUT THE EVENT
For many Aboriginal people, "deadly" means excellent or very good, and that perfectly describes this exciting, hands-on, and highly interactive drop-and-leave school holiday session!
Bring the kids along to experience Nyoongar culture as they learn the art of shelter building and discover the engineering principles that make it work. They will explore how the seasons influence the best location for their shelter and figure out where to place their fire to keep their creation strong against the elements.
Then, they will take flight—literally—as they hone their skills at kylie throwing. Will theirs make its way back to them?
During this workshop, participants will:
- Collaborate to build a life-sized kalak (winter shelter) and create a small-scale model to take home.
- Explore the principles of flight through various Aboriginal objects.
- Gain insights into the interconnectedness of all things.
- Listen to Dreamings that share messages of Caring for Country and personal responsibility.
Don’t miss this opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of science from a unique perspective!
