A dance reborn across time

A high-energy and flighty, emotive dance piece that traces the journey of the Kakilambe (father of destiny), as his ancient ritual dance echoes through time into modern dance rhythms and movement. 

The performance consists of three movements, involving a dancer (The Kakilambe) and a drummer, which evolve into a group of women enjoying an entertaining evening out in a modern cityscape, dancing to the rhythms of modern Afrobeat, utilising The Kakilambe’s movements unbeknownst to them. This contrast highlights how the energetic, flighty, and vigorous traditional dance moves and drumbeats are echoed in the modern, smooth rhythms and dance of hip-Hop.
