Designing on Country

ABOUT THE EVENT

Celebrate the ingenuity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers, architects and built environment professionals.

The legacy of Aboriginal design is steeped in cultural knowledge but often overshadowed by colonial narratives that categorised architecture as a western concept. This exhibition illustrates how Aboriginal people possessed dynamic architectural skills imbedded into their everyday life and how this practice continues to evolve through contemporary Aboriginal architecture projects.

Designing on Country: Part/Present Future utilises photographs from Storylines to demystify pre-colonial ways of living by providing examples of Aboriginal architecture from the late 19th century to the present.
