PICA After Dark: Kambarang-Birak Opening Night
ABOUT THE EVENT
This Kambarang-Birak season, PICA invites you to experience a powerful program of exhibitions that explore timely questions of home, place and migration in Australia.
Join us on Thursday 16 October to celebrate PICA’s final exhibition season of 2025 and three urgent and deeply resonant exhibitions that speak to the personal, political and historical dimensions of belonging. Celebrate with a complimentary drink in hand, generously provided by Cherubino Wines and Rocky Ridge Brewing Co.
Second Generation Collective’s Vádyé Eshgh وادی عشق (Valley of Love) is a major new commission developed with mentorship from artist Abdul-Rahman Abdullah. Inspired by the spiritual text The Seven Valleys, this multi-disciplinary work explores grief, memory and the enduring power of love.
A Deceptively Simple Need by Alana Hunt considers the realities of daily life on unceded land, encouraging reflection on the universal need for a home.
In SETTLED, Joel Sherwood Spring critically examines how new technologies are altering human ways of seeing and being, alongside the continued capitalist exploitation of Aboriginal culture.
PICA After Dark will launch these exhibitions with an evening of reflection and celebration, including a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country from Noongar Elder Sandra Harben, a Bahá’í prayer from members of Second Generation Collective and the premiere of Alana Hunt’s new commissioned film work the deceptively simple need for a home (on other people’s land) with an introduction provided by the artist.
