ABOUT THE EVENT

AGWA’s newest art exhibition inspires endless hours of play!

In an era marked by disconnection, digital saturation, and declining mental wellbeing, Re-PLAY arrives as a vibrant call to action, and a joyful return to hands-on, human connection.

Presented by The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA), and curated by Head of Learning and Creativity Research, Lilly Blue, this bold and interactive exhibition is the result of a powerful collaboration between the AGWA Learning and celebrated Western Australian artist Maxxi Minaxi May.

Known for her striking use of colour and playful yet thought-provoking aesthetic, Maxxi brings her distinctive approach to the Re-PLAY collaboration, infusing the exhibition with energy, humour and deep purpose. At its core, Re-PLAY invites participants of all ages and abilities to rediscover the transformative power of creativity and the universal need for connection.

Through participatory installations, tactile experiences and joyful bursts of colour, Re-PLAY challenges the ‘grey-ness’ of contemporary life and pushes back against consumerism, schedules and screens. It’s a space where beauty, joy and hope are made visible, and where creative expression becomes a vehicle for social change and emotional wellbeing.

Re-PLAY is an entirely unplugged experience, offering a rare moment of connection and collaboration for audiences of all ages, with a powerful call to pause, reflect, and play.
