William Street footbridge closure
Let's be friends
The Perth City Link project is entering a new phase with the start of rail works to sink the Fremantle Line from Perth Train Station to Lake-King Streets.
Temporary tracks for Fremantle Line trains will be laid north of the existing line to allow services to continue while the new Fremantle Line tunnel is constructed.
To make room for the relocated tracks, a section of the William Street footbridge, also known as the Western Concourse, between Roe and Wellington streets will close from Wednesday, 24 August for partial removal.
The Roe Street end will be removed but the Wellington Street entry, including the stairs and escalator, public toilets and escalators connecting to the railway platforms, will remain open.
Pedestrians can move between the CBD and Northbridge using the footpaths on the Horseshoe Bridge, the Milligan Street railway footbridge and the Eastern Concourse that connects the Perth Cultural Centre with Forrest Chase.
The shared cycle and pedestrian path (or PSP) on Roe Street near the junction of Roe and William Streets will be relocated for about 20m to enable the footbridge to be removed.
Public transport services will not be affected.

The work to sink the Fremantle Line from William to Lake/King Street will be undertaken by the Perth City Link Rail Alliance. This rail work is the first stage of the Perth City Link, supported by Commonwealth, State and Local Government, to reconnect the CBD and Northbridge. The alliance’s work includes sinking the Fremantle Line from William Street to Lake/King Streets and building a new pedestrian underpass from Perth Underground Station to all platforms at Perth Train Station. These works are due to be completed in 2014.
