Celebrating and learning about our environment, Urban Spring Festival in the Perth Cultural Centre gives wildlife and gardening enthusiasts the opportunity to explore, enjoy and get close to nature in the heart of the city!
The program coincides with this year’s National Children’s Week (20 – 28 October) theme "A Caring World Shares”, and features:- ABC 720 Radio broadcast: An ABC 720 Radio outside broadcast of the “Roots n Shoots Show” (8.30am – 10am) - program full of gardening talkback along with mountains of fun and frivolity with Sabrina Hahn, James Lush & Josh Byrne from the Urban Orchard in the morning
- A Harvest and Planting Day in the Urban Orchard (9.30am – 11am) Registrations Essential
- Ask It Solve It workshop with Josh Byrne (ABC TV’s Gardening Australia presenter) who will provide organic solutions to your common home garden problems Registrations Essential
- Storytelling and a wacky garden party show
- Frogs, Friends and Foes (2pm – 4pm): a hands-on adventure into wetland biodiversity. This year we have frogs, fish and invertebrates to release into the Urban Wetland and we need your help!
- An urban obstacle course, urban jungle display, and research/conservation information stalls
- Eco art activities – make your own origami hopping frog, egg carton critter, biodiversity sand garden using recycled materials, and biodiversity puzzle book
- A biodiversity treasure hunt - go in the draw for a terrific prize
- Films on the Cultural Centre Screen
- Maps and expedition field books on screen at the State Records Office
- Activities for the kids at the State Library’s Love2Read Café
- Exhibitions and displays at the WA Museum
- Amazing animals, peculiar plants, great games - and so much more…!
This is a FREE family event for nature lovers and gardeners of all ages. Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult.
