Fibrant is a collective of Fibre, Textile and Visual artists whose backgrounds include art graduates, art teachers, art therapists and community artists. The group promotes the creative use and exploration of natural and recycled materials.  Check out their school holiday workshops at the Art Gallery of WA:


HERE COMES THE NEIGHBOURHOOD - 9 July 11am
With Cathy Rankin, inspired by artist Romare Bearden
In this workshop participants will make a collage of themselves and their surroundings using a variety of mediums.

Workshop for children aged 8 - 12 years only

 

SYMBOLS AND SIGNS 9 July 2pm
With Pauline White, inspired by artists Jasper Johns and Marcel Duchamp In this workshop participants will look at familiar signs and symbols through new eyes and make a personal symbol.

Workshop for children aged 13 - 17 years only

 

INSIDE, OUTSIDE - 11 July 11am
With Julia Sutton, inspired by artist Louise Bourgeois
In this workshop participants will make soft sculptural forms based on the human body with a variety of materials and techniques.

With Bronwyn Constance, inspired by artists Marcel Duchamp and Pablo Picasso.
In this workshop participants will explore suitcases filled with found objects which they’ll redefine into their own creations and sculptures.

HANGING ABOUT - 16 July 11am
With Rowan Rovere, inspired by artists Alexander Calder and Joan Miró
In this workshop participants will create moving sculptures using balance and colour.

RE-STITCH - 16 July 2pm
With Toni Javkson, inspired by artist Louise Bourgeois
In this workshop participants will make small scale fabric works by turning everyday textiles (including tea towels, clothes and doilies) into something to cherish. Re-stitched promotes a better understanding of the processes involved in Bourgeois' "fabric drawings" and an experience of creating a new treasure out of the everyday. Participants will leave the workshop with a hand stitched textile art piece.

CUT & PASTE - 18 July 11am
With Trish Newman-Bruton, inspired by artists Henri Matisse and Romare Bearden
In this workshop children will create a paper collage using design, colour and shape.

Workshop for children aged 5 - 7 years only.

 

MASTER-A-PIECE- 18 Jul 2pm
With Bronwyn Constance, inspired by all Picasso to Warhol artists
In this workshop participants select a particular artwork in the exhibition and create their own response to it using various techniques.
