Boat people gives a voice to the survivors of the Vietnamese exodus: listen to Carina Hoang share these stories that are still topical and relevant today.

‘Boat People’, the book, is an in-depth look at the most extraordinary mass movement of people inmodern history; the exodus from Vietnam from 1975 through to 1992. Former boat person, CarinaHoang, together with Michelle Lam, has compiled an array of first-person stories of survival, telling often harrowing tales of desperate ocean journeys by the more than one million people who escaped toIndonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia and other locations. Pirates, starvation, storm ravaged seas, plus the often poor condition or unsuitability of their frequently overcrowded boats took a huge toll of the refugees, and sadly, nearly one third of all Boat People never survived the journey.Carina has sourced many original photographs from previously unvisited personal archives, diaries andcollections. The book will be further illustrated by graphic, hand drawn illustrations showing actualevents that would have been impossible to capture with a camera.
